They do play already but they wouldnt be the best all the top athletes in america play American football or basketball.
Americans do play football (soccer) but they still don't have the best players in the world. Who said that America has the best athletes? Don't believe everything that the American media tell you. They tell you that whoever wins the baseball world series or the NBA championship are the world champions. But we all know that's a load of bull.
They actually do play soccer and their isnt all that bad. I think it is possible that if soccer was more popular in the states, they'd be better, but I doubt they'd be as naturally good as brazil or argentina for ex.

They could never dominate it like they did with basketball for some time.

The US could reach the level of Brazil, Argentina, Italy, Germany, France, England, but only if football becomes the No1 sport in the US.

PS: Maybe then they will stop calling the game soccer and say football like the rest of the world.
