My son is a premier soccer player U 14 and has been offered a spot on a premier team, One option is playing w/ a really great coach and mediocre players (where my son is the top player or playing w/a premier team w/ great players but a so-so coach where my son will be in the middle of the pack.

Which option will make him expand as a player--the best coach or [playing w/better players? Thanks

playing with better players hands down. A good coach is nice, but he is not playing with you. He is merely giving instructions. Your son will practice with these boys alot and it will raise his playing level. Also, if the coach was hired by a premiere club, then he must have something good to offer.

If you realistically think that your son is scholarship material in the future and if he is interested in playing at thecollegelevel you might consider him being on the premier team. Soccer scholarships for male players tend to be on the smaller side due to things like Title 9, but there are some opportunities. On the premier team, will he need to change positions? For instance is he a forward on his rec team who will be switched to defense on the premier team? That is worth trying to figure out. If your son is playing more for enjoyment, staying with his present team seems to make more sense. He could wind up getting burned out playing on a premier team then lose interest playing entirely. For potential life long playing for enjoyment and recreation, he may get more from staying rec.
Soccer is better let him be a good soccer player later he can be a coach coz player is more important he will have more name and even money.

Playing with better players. And typically premier coaches know what they are doing. They may not seem as nice or do what they do in harsher ways, but they usually are better than regular coaches. Also your son playing with better players with make him want to get better so he can stand out and play more
